Cranium Pie: Μηχανισμοί, μέρος 2ον: Κρανίου Τόπος

Οι Cranium Pie είναι το συγκρότημα από το Wiltshire της νοτιοδυτικής Αγγλίας που δημιουργήθηκε το 2006 και έχει κυκλοφορήσει τα πρώτα του singles στις αγαπημένες εταιρείες της στήλης, Bracken και Fruits de Mer. Παίζουν ένα είδος “αφιλόξενου” progressive με πολλές ψυχεδελικές πινελιές, πειραγμένη θεματολογία και χαοτικές ενορχηστρώσεις.

Το 2011 κυκλοφόρησαν το Mechanisms Part 1, έναν δίσκο που βγήκε σε τετρακόσια αντίτυπα και εξαντλήθηκε πολύ γρήγορα. Πρόκειται για ένα concept album, του οποίου η ιστορία –όπως την περιγράφει το ίδιο το συγκρότημα- έχει ως εξής: Από τη ραδιενεργό σκόνη μιας μετα-αποκαλυπτικής τυρρανίας των μηχανών, οι απλές μορφές ζωής προσπαθούν να εκπληρώσουν τις επιθυμίες του «αναβοσβήνοντος ματιού», και να δημιουργήσουν ένα είδος ανθρώπινης ζωής, που προορίζεται να παλέψει με αξιώσεις για τα δικαιώματα των απλούστερων οργανισμών. Τελικά, ο δίσκος αφηγείται την ιστορία ενός πολέμου ανάμεσα σε ρομπότ και καραβίδες, όπου το συγκρότημα (και εμείς

συμπάσχοντας), είμαστε με το μέρος των καραβίδων.  

 Τότε, οι Cranium Pie υπόσχονταν ότι σε ένα χρόνο θα έβγαζαν το δεύτερο μέρος των Μηχανισμών, όπου όλα υποτίθεται ότι θα εξηγούνταν (σχεδόν).

Τελικά χρειάστηκαν τέσσερα χρόνια: το Mechanisms Part 2 κυκλοφορεί στις 30 Μαρτίου και έρχεται είτε να ξεκαθαρίσει είτε να μπερδέψει κι άλλο το αρχικό concept, ανάλογα με την πλευρά που βλέπεις τα πράγματα: Με μεγάλη γενναιότητα η τελευταία μπάντα που είχε επιβιώσει στη Γη, μετέδιδε μηνύματα ελπίδας στα βραχέα κύματα για κάθε πιθανό ακροατή που θα μπορούσε να είναι ακόμα ζωντανός. Εγκλωβισμένα στην υπόγεια περιοχή τους, τα μέλη της μπάντας έκαναν ηχογραφήσεις χρησιμοποιώντας σχεδόν κατεστραμμένο εξοπλισμό που είχε διασωθεί από το μουσείο του ραδιοφώνου ενός νοσοκομείου. Τελικά, οι μουσικοί έπεσαν αβοήθητοι στα νύχια των Μηχανισμών -δεν υπήρχε διαφυγή, οι προειδοποιήσεις της Μητέρας Σίπτον ήταν αληθινές, και ένα προς ένα, τα μέλη συνελήφθησαν.

 
Για εννιακόσια οκτώ χρόνια οι ηχογραφήσεις είχαν παραμείνει στο σφραγισμένο καταφύγιο, έως ότου αυτό τελικά ανακαλύφθηκε από τα οστρακοειδή που ακόμη αντιστέκονταν. Με την ελπίδα να κατανοήσουν το «τι πραγματικά συνέβη» προσπαθούν να κατασκευάσουν μια υποτυπώδη «μηχανή», προκειμένου να αποκρυπτογραφήσουν τα μαγνητικά σήματα. Τα καταφέρνουν και παίζουν τις ταινίες που αποτελούν μια προειδοποίηση που έρχεται από τις αρχές του 21^ου αιώνα, καιρό πριν…

Δεν ξέρω αν όλα αυτά αποτελούν ένα είδος ξεκαθαρίσματος του “πειραγμένου” concept της αγγλικής μπάντας. Εκείνο που ξέρω είναι ότι η μουσική των Cranium Pie είναι δομημένη στις τέσσερις πλευρές (πλευρά και τραγούδι) του διπλού υπό κυκλοφορία Mechanisms Part 2 και ότι αυτός ο δίσκος δεν ακούγεται όσο εύκολα μπορεί να ήθελαν οι φίλοι του εύπεπτου rock αλλά όσο περίπλοκα θα ήθελαν οι οπαδοί του prog που αγάπησαν τους Van Der Graaf, το Canterbury, τους Egg, τους Nice και την Κοσμική μουσική της Ohr.
